Anders “Andrew” Linn was born on April 20, 1839 in Bergkarlås, Kopparbergslän, Mora, Sweden to Elinos Olaf Anderson and Holknekt Kerstin (Mattsdotter) Anderson. On January 2, 1863 he was married to Margit Andersdotter (also called Margretta). The couple emigrated to the America in 1868 and settled in Omaha, Nebraska. They had seven children: Christina, Andrew, Chas, William, Oscar, Ellen Victoria Linn (b. April 1, 1886), and Walter. The family resided in Logan, Dodge, Nebraska in the early 1900s.
A newspaper article [of unknown origin] celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary titled “Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Linn Celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary January 2, 1913 At Old Homestead Where They Have Lived The Past Forty-Four Years. Many Beautiful Presents Were Given Them By Neighbors.” reads:
“January 2nd, 1863, fifty years ago Mora, Sweden was the scene of a happy wedding when Andrew Linn led to the altar Miss Margretta Anderson and they were pronounced man and wife amidst a company of friends and relatives. On January 2nd, 1913 their homestead farm home south of our little city was the scene of another happy event when about one hundred and fifty guests gathered to commemorate the anniversary of their wedding day in a fitting manner.
For five years after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Linn resided in the village in which they were born (April 29, 1839 and May 31, 1845,) raised and married, then the impulse seized them to go to America and get a home in the land where there was more opportunities than in the old home for young people. They arrived in Omaha in June 1868 and stayed there one year, Mr. Linn working at his trade, that of a mason. May 3(?), 1869 they came to Logan Township, filing on the (?) of northeast quarter, section (?) township (?), range 5. The first year they resided in a log house near Logan Creek later building a small frame house 12×14 hauling the timber from (?).
Mr. and Mrs. Linn are the parents of five boys and two girls, Christina born in Sweden, Andrew born in Omaha, Chas, William, Oscar, Ellen and Walter, born on the old homestead, who were with them on this happy occasion except two of the boys Oscar and Chas.
Christina, now Mrs. Hans Olson, Chas and Oscar, are all located at Hoskins, Neb., where Mr. Linn bot a half-section of fine land this fall. Wm. has a fine farm near Bayard, Neb., Ellen, now Mrs. Andrew Larson, is living on the old homestead. Mr. Larson having rented the place this year.
On October 16, 1912, Mr. Linn sold the old homestead consisting of 160 acres to Henry Uehling and the 80 acres to Fred Wubkin on Oct. 4, and decided to move to Hoskins, Neb. They have always enjoyed the best of health until recently when Mr. Linn’s eyesight began to fail and they felt it would be best to live close to their children in their declining years.
Mr. Linn has been identified with most of the movements for progress in this vicinity having been one of the foremost men in establishing the Farmers State Bank, Farmers Grain and Stock Co., of Uehling and Farmers Grain & Stock Co., of Hooper having held directorship in each of the institutions. In politics Mr. Linn has been a staunch republican having held the office of County Supervisor and all the township offices and also member of the school board for several years. In early years he was instrumental in getting the Baptist church work started in this community and in getting a cemetery established where all who had not affiliated with some church could bury their dead and it is still being used.
Mr. and Mrs. Linn have the reputation of always being hospitable and the latch string was always out to neighbors and friends and on this their golden wedding day their old neighbors, relatives and friends gathered around their festive board and many were the toasts given to this venerable old couple.
May they have many more years of wedded bliss, and much prosperity in their new home is the wish of their host of friends in which the Press joins them.”
Anders passed away in 1913 (at age 74) in Logan.
