Austin Miller was born March 24, 1817 in Wythe, Virginia to Jacob Miller and Sarah Sophia (Chapman) Miller. On December 18, 1839 he was married to Elizabeth Mitchell Newland in Wythe. They had 14 children: Armindy, Henrietta Whittman (b. March 27, 1842), William Ballard (b. October 8, 1843), J Wiley (b. June 12, 1845), June Caroline (b. May 10, 1846), Thomas Kemp (b. January 17, 1848), Edward Robert (b. January 11, 1849), Mary Sue (b. June 11, 1850), Elizabeth Luemma (b. August 16, 1851), Austin Elbert (b. May 9, 1853), Fannie Elmira (b. March 13, 1855), Ida Alice (b. July 13, 1857), Rufus Robert Basil (b. March 7, 1858), and Mariah Zobeda (b. January 21, 1860). The Millers resided in Wythe their whole lives, in the Black Lick region. Austin passed away on March 30, 1882 in Wytheville. He’s buried in the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Cemetery in Black Lick, Wythe, Virginia.
