Douglas Stephan Arnold Morris was born about 1856 to Barzilla Morris and Mary Ann (Lawrence) Morris. He was married to Maud Evelyn Veronica Morse. in the fall of 1877 in Galena, Illinois. They settled briefly in Glen Hollow, Illinois. They had thirteen daughters and two sons: Carlyle John (June 8, 1878), Mary E. (ci. Decebmer 1880), Anna (November 1886), Lela, Anna, Eva, Elizabeth “Bessie” (November 24, 1886), Laurence, Ruth, Grace, Hazel, Inez, Blanche, Nettie, Julia Estelle (February 6, 1902), and Viola F. (May 30, 1904). They also raised their oldest grandsons, Harvey and Douglas when Carl’s wife died.
By 1888 the family had relocated to Sioux City, Iowa. In the fall of 1906 they moved to a farm north of Claremont, Brown County, South Dakota. Douglas was interested in race horses and often took his horses to the Brown County Fair horse races. Douglas died on February 22, 1925 in Clermont, Brown County, South Dakota. He was buried at the Detroit Cemetery in Hecla, Brown County, South Dakota.
