Ellen Victoria Linn was born April 1, 1886 in Uehling, Nebraska to Anders “Andrew” Linn and Margit “Margretta” (Andersdotter) Linn. She grew up in Logan, Dodge, Nebraska. She was married to Andrew L. Larson, and they had three daughters: Laura Margaret Marie (b. July 19, 1903), Lillian A. (b. ci. 1908), LaVon Geraldine (b. April 9, 1913); and a son, Vernon, who was killed on Easter Sunday when he was kicked in the head by a horse as a small boy.
Andrew died in 1922, when Ellen was only 36 years old. She never remarried. In about 1927, she moved to Los Angeles, California. She loved to dance. Her friends from Norfolk (Nebraska) were living in LA, so she moved west to be near them and go to dances. In Los Angeles, she was a nanny to several starlets’ children.
Ellen was fearless. She loved to travel, and she often traveled by bus across the country. She went to the World’s Fair in New York City in 1939. Ellen also took her granddaughter LaRae on several trips. In those days, children under five years old traveled for free…so Ellen took advantage of this and brought LaRae with her to several Midwest cities. LaRae remembers her packing lunches for them on the long trips. She died in Los Angeles on July 14, 1962. She was buried next to her husband at Swaburg Baptist Cemetery in Uehling, Dodge, Nebraska.
