Mary Carter was born in 1795 in Charlottenburgh, Eastern District, Ontario, Canada. She was married to Hugh McPhee (of Inverness-shire, Scotland) on January 27, 1816 at the Trinity Anglican Church in Cornwall, Ontario. They lived in Finch Township, Eastern District, Ontario, and had five children: John (b. February 9, 1818), Wililam (b. October 15, 1820), Duncan (b. 1822), Isabella (b. 1824), and Catherine (b. April 8, 1826). Mary passed away on July 23, 1888 in Orilla Township, Simcoe County, Ontario.
