Nancy Ann Grant was born on October 11, 1808 in Charlottenburg, Glengarry, Ontario, Canada to Duncan Grant and Mary (McMartin) Grant. On May 4, 1825 she was married to Malcolm Carther in Charlottenburg. They had nine children: Peter (b. 1827), John Malcolm (b. August 20, 1830), Angus (b. February 23, 1835), Matilda Ann (b. September 11, 1839), Christie (b. January 17, 1841), Duncan (b. 1843), Nancy (b. February 20, 1846), and Jeannette (b. May 1, 1849).
The family resided in Stormont, Ontario, Canada through the 1870s. Nancy passed away sometime between 1871 and 1881 in Roxborough, Glengarry, Ontario.
