William Robertson was born in December of 1810 in Montgomery, Virginia to John Robertson and Mary “Polly” (Hess) Robertson. On January 11, 1844 he was married to Sarah T. Foster in Roanoke, Halifax, Virginia. They had a daughter, Virginia, in 1845, and a son, Charles “Chas” Wesley on August 10, 1846.
Confederate Staff Officers’ Insignia – Captain
The family settled in Giles, Virginia. William fought as a Confederate captain in the Civil War in Wallace’s Regiment of Virginia. He died of bowel cancer on September 7, 1887, at the age of 76 in Staffordsville, Giles, Virginia.
